Block printed striped khadi bath towel hanging on a shower hook

Block Printed Khadi Bath Towel

Upgrade your bathroom decor with our block printed, waffle weave Maya Bath Towel, featuring a mid-century modern-inspired striped design for those who want to infuse color into their home, but in a smaller dose.

Our towels are block printed onto Khadi fabric, a hand-woven and hand-spun fabric that gained popularity in the early 1900s thanks to Mahatma Gandhi. Khadi towels are known for absorbing a lot of water, drying fast (ideal for humid climates) and rolling up compactly making them great accessories for travel.

Hand Block Printed
Towels are printed on one side. Due to the nature of hand block printing, dye may be seen on the reverse side, print and color may vary from piece-to-piece, and placement of print may not always be exact as everything is handmade and human error does occur. This enhances the artistic nature of hand block printing.

The Block Printing Process
Artist drawing out flowers on transparent paper

1. Designing

Whether it's from the creative minds of local artisans in India, or our own, it all starts with a sketch. The prints are drawn out, transferred onto the computer for final tweaks, then printed out to be traced onto a wooden block.

2. Carving

Once the design has been traced, the block is then carved out for printing. Because each block can only print one color at a time, if a print has 5 colors, 5 different blocks need to be made so each color shows up in its correct place when printed.

3. Printing

The most exciting part - seeing the design come to life. Once all the blocks are made, the dyes are mixed, and the printing starts, all by hand, with only rulers or the naked eye used for precision.

After the printing is complete, the fabric is washed, dried outside under the natural sunlight, cut, sewn, and made for you to wear.

Woman wearing orange sleeveless jumpsuit and holding baby

I fell in love with the patterns and colors but having an accessible zip down front really sold me since I'm a new mom. Being both breastfeeding friendly and stylish makes it a staple in my closet!

I have been loving wearing them because they really spice up my outfits. I added one in my hair to make an easy hairstyle even cuter.
