When the news came out that Everlane was being acquired by Shein, I, like most people, was shocked. Everlane, a brand that prided itself on ethical practices, quality staples and pricing transparency, was now going to be lead by a fast-fashion giant.
Where does that leave the state of the fashion industry? Will all well-intentioned brands eventually have to sell-out to the fast-fashion juggernauts that seemingly run the world? More importantly, where does that leave you, the customer who wants well made pieces that are ethically constructed with quality materials?
Fashion has become faster, cheaper, and more disposable than ever before. Nothing feels rare, personalized, or artistic.
Fashion is art — but where's the art in fast fashion and mass production?
This is why slow fashion still matters. That's where the art is, like our block printing process.
Every block printed piece is made by hand, from the mixing of the dye, to the carving of the block, to the printing placement of that same block. And each pieces carries its own uniqueness through slight variations because it was made by artists, not machines.
There will always be companies selling out, abandoning the ethos they built themselves upon. But there will also always be people and brands like us, prioritizing artistry, craftsmanship and the people behind the designs.
Slow fashion still exists, and we're proof of that.
