Behind the Flora Print: Our Design Process

Behind the Flora Print: Our Design Process

At first glance, our new Flora print may seem like another pretty floral print—but behind every petal curvature and each chosen color, our design inspiration was rooted in our deep appreciation of spring's blossoms and the impact they bring into our lives. From the late-night pencil sketch to the final block stamp, let us show you how this vivid print came to life.

The First Sketch

Back in the Fall of 2024, as leaves were falling and covering the roads in shades of yellow and orange, I was already thinking of Spring, of new life blooming in the parks, in my Mom's backyard, in the city's gardens. And when I was thinking of Spring, I was getting excited about hosting dinner parties and sitting outdoors, having a meal with my friends. This instantly got me inspired to create our first collection of placemats and matching table napkins. I wanted to create a print that was a conversation starter, that contributed to the excitement and happiness of gathering together with friends and family, and thus, the Flora print came about: Big petals, rich colors, soft fabrics.

The Printing Process

After the sketch was finalized, I created a pattern through Procreate and sent the final pattern to the artists we work with in India.

From there, they were able to transfer the print onto wooden blocks, have them carved and then hand block printed.

The Final Pieces

Not only is the Flora print now available on our first-ever washable cotton placemats and matching cotton table napkins, each sold in a set of 2, but we repurposed the print into a bandana.

I chose a golden yellow and dark-reddish brown for the placemats and napkins to capture the summer's sunny aura while remaining earthy and complementary to any setting. However, I swapped the yellow for a dark navy/black for the bandanas so they can be an easy pairing to any everyday outfit, like your go to Levi's and basic tees.
